Map of the low-emission zone in Bordeaux
Bordeaux’s low-emission zone is one of the easiest to understand in France. An emissions sticker is only required within the rocade, which is the ring road of the city. This makes it easy to pass Bordeaux if you are on your way to another destination. If you drive on or outside the ring road, a sticker is not required. The ring road consists of the A630 and in the northeast of Bordeaux the N230.
There are also quite a few short routes from the ring road to parking relais that still lie within the low-emission zone. These park-and-ride sites are accessible without an emissions sticker via the most direct road. On the map, these roads are indicated by blue lines.
The low-emission zone of Bordeaux
Bordeaux’s low-emission zone is officially known as the zone à faibles émissions (ZFE) of the Bordeaux Métropole. This is an alliance of 28 French municipalities. This cooperation makes it easy to expand the low-emission zone in the future if necessary. Currently, the low-emission zone is in effect day and night, seven days a week. There are no different rules for passenger and truck traffic.
Parking outside the low-emission zone
Bordeaux is a large city, which means the city also has a large number of parking relais. These are parking lots from which you can continue your journey by public transport. Usually, these are streetcar lines. As described above, many of these parking lots are still just inside the ring road and thus within the low-emission zone. However, they can be reached via the most direct roads. Note that this is not always an exit from the ring road. Sometimes it involves a road that passes underneath the ring road.
