Low-emission zone of Nîmes
The city of Nîmes in southern France introduced a low-emission zone on 1 January 2025. An emissions sticker is mandatory if you drive within this low-emission zone. The boundaries of the low-emission zone are formed by the city limits of Nîmes. The emissions sticker is mandatory within the orange area on the map above.
A special feature of Nîmes is that there are a large number of through roads and connecting roads where an emissions sticker is not required. The most important are the A9, which crosses the city from the northeast to the southwest, and the A54 towards Arles. There are also the N106 and the N113, although on the N113 an emissions sticker is only not required west of the N106. On the map, these roads are marked with red lines.
As for connecting roads, there are sections of the D907, D418, D979, D135, D127, D6086, D999, D42, D13, D613, and D40 where an emissions sticker is not required. They are marked with blue lines on the map. These are mainly roads that give the surrounding villages access to the highways or for example the hospital in the western part of the city. They are less important for tourists.
The low-emission zone of Nîmes
Whereas most low-emission zones in France cover several cooperating municipalities in an urban area, the zone à faibles émissions (ZFE) in Nîmes is limited to the city itself. The rules are in force at all times, including at night and on weekends.
Parking outside the low-emission zone
Nîmes has an efficient network of express bus lines, labeled T1 to T5. They connect the city center with a number of park-and-ride sites. Most of these are located within the low-emission zone and cannot be reached without an emissions sticker. An exception is P+R A54/Caissargues, marked with A on the map.
- P+R A54/Caissargues: Nîmes-Centre A54 exit at the D42, 262 parking spaces, lines T1 and T4.
This P+R site is easy to reach from any direction. During rush hour, there is a bus every 10 minutes.
Which emissions sticker in Nîmes?

All colors of emissions stickers are permitted in the Nîmes low-emission zone. Only if you do not have an emissions sticker are you not allowed to enter the low-emission zone. As a general rule, the following vehicles are not eligible for the French emissions sticker:
- Passenger cars from before 1 January 1997.
- Light commercial vehicles from before 1 October 1997.
- Trucks and buses from before 1 October 2001.
- Motorcycles and scooters from before 1 June 2000.

Other low-emission zones in the area
There are two other low-emission zones near Nîmes, namely those of Montpellier and Marseille. Montpellier is located 50 kilometers southwest of Nîmes. To reach Marseille, you must drive approximately 110 kilometers southeast.

Nîmes has 150,000 inhabitants and is located not far from the Mediterranean Sea. The city is best known for its well-preserved Roman buildings. The Maison Carrée temple, the arena of Nîmes where gladiator fights were held and the Jardins de la Fontaine with its numerous ruins are good examples. Today, Nîmes is also a cultural city with excellent museums.
